The history of Red Espresso in South Africa

Red Espresso's Rooibos Intenso Extra Strength Capsules represent a significant innovation in South Africa's beverage industry, blending traditional rooibos tea with modern espresso culture.

The journey began in 2005 when co-founders Pete and Monique Ethelston, along with Carl Pretorius, sought to create a caffeine-free alternative to coffee. They developed a method to grind rooibos tea finely enough to be brewed in espresso machines, resulting in a rich, full-bodied beverage with a crema similar to traditional espresso. This innovation led to the creation of products like the red cappuccino® and red latte®, which gained popularity in South African cafés and earned international recognition, including the Best New Specialty Product award at the 2008 Specialty Coffee Association of America Expo

Building on this success, Red Espresso introduced their rooibos capsules in South Africa in November 2014, coinciding with the expiration of Nespresso's patent, which opened the market for compatible capsules. The launch was met with enthusiasm, selling over one million capsules in the first month. These capsules offered a convenient way for consumers to enjoy the health benefits of rooibos tea, known for its high antioxidant content, in a format compatible with popular single-serve machines

Usage
